What fire rating do holiday lodge and park home curtains need?

Holiday accommodation sits under a mix of rules depending on how the unit is classified and what the site licence requires, but the common thread for curtains is BS 5867 Part 2, the British Standard for the flammability of curtains, drapes and window blinds. Lodges, static caravans and glamping units let to the public are sleeping accommodation, so park operators and unit manufacturers generally specify Type B as a minimum and increasingly Type C, which also has to keep its performance after a defined cleansing procedure. A holiday park is also a workplace and a licensed site, so the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and the site's fire risk assessment apply to the accommodation it lets.

Choosing curtain fabrics for a holiday park

The problem is scale: every window on the park needs compliant curtains and there are a great many windows. This collection gathers the lower-cost dimout weights for that reason, without giving up certification. Where the budget is best spent:

• Bedrooms. Worth upgrading to blackout. Guest sleep shows up directly in reviews, and poor blackout is one of the most frequent complaints in holiday accommodation, especially in summer.
• Living and dining areas. Dimout weights are usually enough, drape well on the smaller windows typical of lodges, and the saving across a whole site is significant.
• Pitch-facing windows. Voiles add daytime privacy cheaply where units sit close together.
• Standardise. Ordering one fabric and colourway across a site keeps replacement simple; when a curtain is damaged you replace a panel, not rethink a scheme. Order a small surplus at the outset, since dye lots vary between production runs.
• Cleaning. Every fabric we list is inherently fire retardant, so the rating survives changeover laundering season after season.

Specifying and ordering

Every curtain is made to measure in the UK. Choose the fabric, enter your drop and width, select a heading (pencil pleat, eyelet, wave or pinch pleat), and the configurator prices it immediately. For a whole park, a refurbishment programme or a manufacturer's production run, request a quote with the number of units, the window sizes and the specification, and we will price it properly rather than leaving you to multiply an online price by two hundred.

Fire test certificates are supplied for the site fire risk assessment, and samples are available on every fabric.

Holiday lodge curtain FAQs

Do static caravan and lodge curtains have to be fire retardant?

For units let to the public, yes in practice: the site's fire risk assessment under the Fire Safety Order, and in many cases the site licence conditions, will expect soft furnishings in sleeping accommodation to be fire retardant, and BS 5867 Part 2 is the recognised standard for curtains. Every fabric on this page is tested to it.

Can you make curtains for the small, non-standard windows in a lodge?
